For all those who watch college wretling

Just curious if anyone else watches college wrestling and wonders how well a particular wrestler would do in MMA, or which wrestler will try it after they graduate ? Who are some wrestlers you would like to see in mma, past or present?

Obviously wrestlers have made the transition, with Coleman , Couture, and Randleman but I really don't think those guys have an impact on the wrestling scene like they used too. I think with guys like Johnny Hendricks, and Jake Rosholt, that people have recently watched win a championship and switch over to mma with great success have a huge impact. You could even argue that Paul Bradley( former Hawkeye), who was tough as nails at Iowa, even so to getting stiches during a match so he could continue, makes an impact. I think we will start to see a lot of wrestlers using College as a stepping stone to the MMA world.

Obviously there are so many more wrestlers, too many to list. Also I'm not saying being a good wrestler always makes you a great fighter.

I would like to see Varner from ISU transition into MMA after he is done but I bet he does Olympic stuff after college. I think he would be a beast at 185 or 205 cause he wrestles at 197. What do you guys think?

I think almost any of the guys from Iowa or Iowa State could transition well. I was watching inside MMA on HD net when they were in IC for the OK St match and they had Dan Gable on his thoughts were the elite guys should go to the international seen (Olympics) use that to work there way in the a higher level of MMA after the Olympics. It's just too bad these dudes (wresters) are some of the hardest working and most athletic people in the world and don't make any money with the sport. By the way I never wrestled. I also am not saying that they can come out of nowhere and win UFC belt, just thinking 2 or 3 pro fights after being in the olmpics could get them in a UFC or strikeforce.
