I guess I gotta say I am tired of ammy shows just randomly showing up. Being a promoter and having amateur shows is not the way to make money. I see too many shows, going back to Chad Mason where they have amateurs fight and charge too darn much for tickets just so someone can make money on the backs of guys who are just coming up.
If you are having an all amateur show, why in the hell would you charge close to what it costs to get into a pro show? There is no amateur show worth paying more than $10 entry into. I just don't freaking get it.

Ron, the thing you don't understand is that venues don't care if it's ammy or pro so they charge you the same. So to make it worth your while you have to charge those rates is what I've found when talking to most of these promoters. It would help them out if the venues would change their prices if it was ammy or pro but they aren't going to do that.

Jeff, someone is feeding you crap. The venue charges a set fee for a nights access. The pro promotions have to pay for salaries of the pro fighters, they typically have a bond requirement and then providing health insurance if they are a good promoter. So an all ammy show does not have nearly the cost associated with it that a pro show does.
Yes there are some venue agreements that the promoter gets a portion of the gate/entry fees. But most of the shows you see get a fee for the show no matter whether the show is ammy or pro.

Well DSM might be like that but I know in towns like Ottumwa and other smaller venues they charge a flat fee no matter if the event is Pro or Ammy. I know Ammy's have insurance in some instances. I've worked for a promoter that did a couple of shows in Ottumwa and he did a really good job taking care of his fighters.

Personally, it's worth $10 for me to see one guy get knocked out or TKOed.

The last Ammy show I went to were Max Fights and I thought they were well worth the money.
